Semi accident closes part of Smithfield highway

LOGAN — A traffic accident involving a semi closed parts of state road US 91 for almost two hours Tuesday morning, south of Smithfield.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Kendrick said a semi pulling two empty tankers was turning onto US 91 at 4600 North, when he clipped a power pole.

“When he made the turn, a trailer clipped a power pole and broke the power pole off,” said Kendrick. “That jerked the line and broke the pole across the road, causing power lines sag across state road 91.”

Because of the damaged power lines laying across the road, both north and south bound lanes were closed and traffic was diverted through Smithfield and Hyde Park.

Kendrick said there were no injuries and no other vehicles involved.

The driver was cited for making an improper unsafe right turn.
