LOGAN — The trial for a 38-year-old man charged with taking pornographic pictures of local children, is being postponed while it’s determined whether he is competent to stand trial.
William Lawrence Larson appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He is charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of possession or use of a controlled substance, all second-degree felonies. He is also charged with four misdemeanors, including interference with an arresting officer, propelling a bodily substance and additional drug related charges.
Defense attorney Shannon Demler told the court, Larson is undergoing a mental evaluation to determine whether he understands the court process and the charges filed against him. The results are expected to be completed by November 15.
Larson was originally arrested in August after police officers received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that he was sharing child pornography over the internet.
When investigators scanned Larson’s computer they found obvious evidence of child pornography. They also found pictures they believed had been taken of local children.
Police said the victims were all under the age of 10 and appear to have known they were photographed. They were not related to Larson but he was babysitting them at the time.
Larson is being held in the Cache County Jail without bail. He is expected to appear again in court November 25.
