Appropriate as a lead up to Halloween, this week the Thatcher-Young Mansion will become a battleground for area wizards competing in the fourth annual Cache Valley Conjurers’ Competition Wednesday night.

“The performance/competition part will begin at 7 o’clock with doors opening about 6:30,” said local deceptionist Richard Hatch, the event organizer.

The annual event attracts magicians from throughout northern Utah and southern Idaho to compete for cash prizes.

“The competitors are limited to seven minutes each and we will be pretty strict on that,” said Hatch. “It will be a variety of stuff and there is something for everybody. There will be comedy magic, there will be mind reading. There will be a range of ages, our youngest competitor is a middle schooler, his name is Clay.

“At the other end of the spectrum, 70 years older than that, is Richard Cannon, who has won this competition twice.”

A panel of judges will decide first, second and third place winners and a people’s choice prize will be determined by a vote of ticket holders.

Tickets are $10 and available online at hatchacademy.com
