Preston man killed in three vehicle accident

LOGAN — An 82-year-old Preston man was killed in a three vehicle accident Tuesday in Hyde Park.

North Park Police Chief Kim Hawks said Dav Frew was driving a 1991 blue Mazda pickup and was at the intersection of 4040 North Main, US 91.

Frew attempted to turn left onto the highway and go northbound when he was broadsided by a 2004 GMC Sierra pickup, driven by 28-year-old Jared Astle of North Logan.

Hawkes said a passerby attempted to perform CPR on Frew, who had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was transported to the Cache Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Astle was also transported to Logan Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

Hawkes said southbound traffic was heavy at the time of the accident and Astle didn’t have time to react, when Frew pulled in front of him.

A third vehicle, a 2004 Honda Civic was also struck by accident debris but the driver was uninjured.

The accident blocked traffic along US 91 for several hours.
