Sheriff confirms: missing hunter found

LOGAN — A 72-year-old missing hunter was found safe Monday morning, a day after he walked away from his camp near Hardware Ranch.

Officials with the Rich County Sheriff’s Office said John Wolf was found approximately three-miles from his camp.  He was in good condition and did not require any medical attention.

Wolf was found by another hunter around 8 a.m. The other hunter had an amateur radio and was able to communicate with a ham radio operator in Cache Valley, who was able to relay information to search and rescue crews.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Doyle Peck said Wolf was camping with a group near the Curtis Creek campground. He left Sunday morning with two bottles of water to hunt deer near Sixbit Springs.

Peck said the man’s hunting companions became concerned when he did not return to camp at noon. They called police dispatch and requested assistance around 2:15 p.m.

Search and rescue volunteers looked for the hunter Sunday, through the afternoon until the search was postponed because of darkness.
