Plea deal coming for man accused of child sex abuse

LOGAN — The lawyer for a 61-year-old Avon man accused of child sex abuse has asked a judge for more time, to work out a possible plea deal with state prosecutors.

John Robert Steed appeared in 1st District Court Monday afternoon. He is being charged with one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Steed’s attorney told the judge that prosecutors have offered a plea deal in the case and they needed 60-days to work out the details. The judge ordered they appear again in court November 17.

Specifics of the plea agreement have not been disclosed.

Steed could face five-years-to-life in prison if convicted.
