A request for a boarding and breeding kennel in Cache Junction has been denied by the Cache County Planning Commission. John and Caryn Mullin asked for a conditional use permit that would have allowed a boarding and breeding kennel.
The kennel would board up to 42 Pug dogs for breeding purposes. A representative of the planning commission said many residents of the community spoke out against the proposal saying it would create noise and also attract coyotes and stray dogs when the pugs are in heat.
Cache Humane Society executive director Roland Bringhurst said there are many unwanted dogs in Cache Valley and the Humane Society is against breeding of cats and dogs in the valley.
