People have only until Saturday, August 9 to enjoy the 2014 Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre season and General Director Michael Ballam says the week coming up will be exciting.
Ballam said on Wednesday his company will be collaborating with Craig Jessop and his American Festival Chorus to present “The Best of Beethoven.” He said the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Ellen Eccles Theatre and it will be a celebration of Beethoven, ending with the “Ode to Joy” from his monumental 9th Symphony.
“We’re going to have the hits of his great piano concerti, and his piano sonatas, like the Moonlight Sonata, and some choral movements like the Hallelujah from (Christ on) the Mount of Olives,” Ballam explained. “It’s going to be a very exciting evening.
“We usually try to tribute a great choral work of one of the great composers, like Mozart, Verdi and Beethoven.”
Ballam said the main stage production of “Oklahoma” can be seen both Thursday and Friday evenings and the season ends with the acclaimed “Les Miserables” on Saturday.
