Pioneer Day festivities continue in Mendon

A Pioneer Days celebration that started in Mendon on Monday continues tonight with a volleyball tournament starting at 6 p.m. followed by a flag football game.

The big day is Saturday and Mendon Mayor Ed Buist said thousands of people are expected to be in his community where many different kinds of events are tailored for every age. Mayor Buist said the 12th annual Great Race begins at 1 p.m. immediately after the 12 p.m. parade.

There will be plenty of food, games and contests, even animal events and a softball tournament as well.

On KVNU’s Crosstalk program, Mayor Buist said the evening ends with fireworks and his favorite moment comes after the fireworks are over.

“I live up on a bench,” said Buist. “I hurry and get out of there as quickly as I can.

“It’s fun watching the tail lights leave town. There’s a trail all the way to Logan on the Mendon Road. There’s a trail all the way to Wellsville. There are so many people.”

The Mayor invites everyone to help celebrate Pioneer Days at Mendon, which is Cache Valley’s second oldest city, next to Wellsville.
