Upcoming Cache Valley summit focuses on Utah’s Own food entrepreneurs

The first-ever Utah’s Own Summit to be held in Logan is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16th at the Riverwoods Conference Center between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

It is co-sponsored by the Cache Business Resource Center and the Small Business Development center. Cindy Roberts of the Business Resource Center says it’s an opportunity to meet and mingle with successful Utah food entrepreneurs and learn about business resources available in this area.

One of the presentations will be given by Jed Christensen, director of Utah’s Own, who says the Utah’s Own effort is a state-wide marketing program that  seeks to create a strong consumer culture that seeks and buys local products.

“The main thing is to increase the awareness on the part of consumers to create that demand,” Christensen explains. “I always encourage my audiences, the people I speak to, to look for local products whenever you can.”

He says the program not only strives to point out that Utah has many locally-produced products, but that those products are just as good or better than many national brands.

“Given the choice between a local and a national brand, for heaven’s sake choose the local brand. We make products that are absolutely second to none.”

He says some good examples are Cache County’s own cheeses, chocolates and jams along with other products.
