“It’s been crazy.” That’s what Cache County Council Chairman Val Potter says about some talk going on about problems in the County Treasurer’s office.
Potter says the county council does plan to do an audit of the Treasurer’s office but also audits of the sheriff, auditor and executive offices where new leadership is coming in after the first of the year.
“A lot of people are saying lots of things. I think a lot of it is being stirred up because of the election,” Potter says. “There is a lot of emotion going on. That’s good, but that’s also bad.
“There has been a lot of misinformation being spread. There are a lot of people talking about a threat of a conspiracy going on.”
Potter says that is simply not true. He says the audit that is being performed is purely routine.
“There is nothing specific we are looking for at this point.”
Potter says people have to remember there is an election going on and sometimes people see bad decisions on the part of some campaigns.
He says the independent auditor will probably be chosen by the council next month after receiving bids from an RFP.
