LOGAN – The 2nd annual Zoo-rific Celebration will continue for an extra week this year at the Willow Park Zoo. The organizers originally planned for one week, but after a successful first week, the organizers decided to extend it through May 31.
The Zoo-rific Celebration is a fundraiser for the Willow Park Zoo. Carnival rides and booths for vendors were set up in from of the zoo with the bulk of proceeds going to the zoo.
“We’re actually going to stay an entire second week here,” said Sean Ricks, who is the promotions manager for the carnival. “It was supposed to go from Wednesday until Monday. Now it’s going from Wednesday until Monday, with Tuesday off. Then it’s going from Wednesday until Saturday.”
Ricks, who also sells his artwork at a vendor’s booth at the carnival, said that the carnival is beneficial for the zoo in multiple ways.
“We definitely get them some promotional money, some things that will help them expand and we also bring them back into the light of the public view,” Ricks said. “We give them opportunity where everyone has a chance to know the zoo is here.”
According to Ricks, the idea for the annual event came after David Gordon, the owner of the Town and Country Shows carnival, approached the zoo with the idea last summer.
“Last year the park did well and the carnival did well so they decided to do it again this year,” Ricks said.
The carnival will open again Wednesday and run until May 31. It will be open from 10 a.m. to midnight each night.
