Pianists from throughout Northern Utah and Southeast Idaho competed in the annual Dahle Piano Competition Saturday. Classical and contemporary piano pieces were performed at the Dahle Performing Arts Center in Dayton, Idaho. The event is a scholarship competition sponsored by Larry and Joan Dahle.
Alyssa Gardner, representing Highland High School, was awarded 1st place and a $1000 scholarship. Gardner played <em>Fountain of the Acqua Paola</em> written by <span class=”st”>Charles Tomlinson Griffes.</span> The second place winner was Shalea Smedley, from Marsh Valley High School. Smedley was awarded a $500 scholarship for her performance of <em>Polonaise Op. 49 No. 12</em> by Edward MacDowell. Third place and a $250 scholarship was awarded to Savanna Summers from Mountain Crest High School. Summers performed <em>Preludium</em> by Edward MacDowell.
Other students who competed were Julie Bell (Snake River High School), Taya Nash (West Side High School), Alma Sarvela (Logan High School), Clay Crandall (North Gem High School), Tanner Pearson (Pocatello High School), Thomas Lake (Bear Lake High School), Hayley Johnson (Sky View High School) and Brianna Crosgrove (Preston High School).
