United Way fundraiser features Jon M. Huntsman, Sr., honors three local residents

Three Cache Valley residents will be recognized when the United Way of Cache Valley hosts its annual fundraising dinner on Thursday, May 22 starting at 6 p.m. at the Utah State University Taggart Student Center ballroom.

Executive Director Doug Stephenson says those citizens are Matt Whittaker, manager of the Cache Community Food Pantry, Dolores Gossner Wheeler, president and CEO of Gossner Foods and Saboor Sahely, owner of Angie’s Restaurant in Logan.

Stephenson says the event will benefit 19 agencies that provide significant service to the community.

“We try to reach out to a broad cross section of the community as far as helping in the different agencies,” Stephenson says. “We try to look at the young children, we try to look at the teenagers.

“We have the Alliance for Youth program that we’re helping here in the valley as well, that’s the after-school program for kids. We’ve looked at the senior citizens, those who are handicapped. We try to look at everybody.”

Stephenson says he’s excited to announce that the featured speaker will be Jon M. Huntsman, Sr., founder and executive chairman of Huntsman Corporation, a global manufacturer of specialty chemicals. Huntsman was named by Forbes Magazine as “one of the 18 most generous givers on the planet.”
