Truck rolls into Logan River

Red GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by Casey Sims, 27, of Bear Lake County.  UHP reports Sims truck left the roadway in Logan Canyon, rolling into the Logan River.

LOGAN — A Saturday afternoon accident in Logan Canyon, along US 89 appears to have been alcohol related.

Utah Department of Public Safety Information Officer Joe Dougherty said Casey Sims, of Bear Lake County, was driving a red GMC Sierra pickup truck, when he missed a curve in the road about 14 miles up the canyon.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers found no skid marks where Sims’ truck left the roadway, rolled down an embankment about eight-feet into the river and then came to a rest on the driver’s side.

Dougherty said Sims was ejected from the truck and was found by witnesses in the river.  The 27-year-old was taken to Logan Regional Hospital by ambulance.  He was later flown to McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden.

The accident was reported at 4:25 p.m. Traffic along US 89 was slowed while troopers investigated and cleared the accident.
