Utah State track and field snags 11 event titles on second day of Mark Faldmo Invitational

LOGAN, Utah – Five Utah State track and field student-athletes won events with personal-best marks and times on the second and final day of action Saturday at the USU Mark Faldmo Invitational in Logan, Utah to help lead the Aggie teams to 11 total event titles at their lone home meet.

Senior Alex Litzsinger won the 1,500m with a time of 4:37.63 to set a personal-best. Senior Sam Nielson Easily topped her best mark in the triple jump with a distance of 12.39m (40-07.75) and junior CJ O’Neal took the long jump title with a leap of 6.75m (22-01.75) to set a personal-record. Senior Chalese West also set a personal-record in the 200m, breaking the tape with a time of 24.33. Additionally, freshman Colby Wilson blitzed his personal-record in the 1,500m, winning the title with a time of 3:55.21.

Junior Rachel Orr won the high jump, clearing the bar with a height of 1.75m (5-08.75) and freshman Daphne Jones tied for the long jump title with a distance of 5.69m (18-08.00). On the men’s side, sophomore Briton Page won 800m with a time of 1:51.68 and senior Kenny Hamlett was the top-finisher in the triple jump, recording a distance of 14.27m (46-10.00). Finally, Utah State’s men’s 4x400m team won their race, finishing in 3:18.34.

In addition to her title in the 200m, West also placed second in the 100m, crossing the finish line in 12.19. Freshman Brittany Rawlins followed close behind, placing fourth with a time of 12.47.

Freshman Katelyn Zabriskie placed second in the high jump behind Orr, recording a height of 1.65m (5-05.00) and USU’s women’s 4x400m relay team also placed second with a time of 4:10.12. Freshman Sydney Blair took third in the 800m, finishing in 2:16.70. Also finishing third was junior Brittany Bushman, completing the 1,500m in 4:43.42, while freshmen Cierra Simmons (4:46.83) and Tori Parkinson (4:47.68) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Freshman Elise Maddox finished the 100m hurdles in 15.44 to take fourth and also finished fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.03. Fellow freshman Jensen Williams took fourth in the 400m, clocking a 58.14. Freshman Bethani Talbot grabbed fifth-place in the long jump with a leap of 5.35m (17-06.75) and freshman Kayla Lee rounded out the top-five for the Aggie women, garnering a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.28m (37-00.25).

For the Aggie men, freshman Austin Orr (1:52.93), sophomore Spencer Russell (1:52.93) and freshman Brett McAdams (1:54.62) followed Page in the places 3-5. In the 1,500m, senior Kyle McKenna finished right behind Wilson in second-place, recording a time of 3:56.23, and junior Chris Martinez took fourth with a time of 3:59.40. Junior Michael Cardinal garnered second in the shot put with a toss of 15.68m (51-05.50) and freshman Ben Bracken placed third in the discus with a heave of 39.57m (129-10). CJ O’Neal added to his long jump title with a third-place finish in the 100m, recording a time of 10.89, while freshman Tanner Hunt grabbed a third-place finish in the 400m with a time of 48.25. Freshman Alec Willard (14.95) and junior Dan Mosman (15.16) finished in third and fourth, respectively, in the 110m hurdles. Freshman Dallas Hoofard and Willard did the same in the 400m hurdles, with Hoofard recording a time of 56.10 and Willard coming in at 56.85. In the high jump, senior Xavier Williford Jr. grabbed fifth-place with a height of 2.00m (6-06.75).

Utah State’s track & field teams will continue action next weekend at the University of California hosted Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkley, Calif., on April 25-26. USU will then compete at the Idaho-Utah Border Clash in Boise, Idaho on May 2-3, which will be the Aggies’ final preparation for the Mountain West Outdoor Championships on May 14-17, in Laramie, Wyo.
