Maughan wants to bring more longterm planning to Cache County Executive

Sgt. Mark Maughan loves his job with the Cache County Sheriffs office but he said for several years he has had a goal: to serve as Cache County Executive. On KVNU’s Crosstalk program, Maughan said he has worked hard to get degrees and other credentials and now he’s running for the office against two other Republicans, Craig Buttars and Boyd Pugmire.

Maughan said he thinks the current county elected officials are good people but perhaps lack vision and longterm strategic planning.

“Our road department, there was several years ago they recognized that a grant was coming to an end that funded several employees,” Maughan said. “At that time they really didn’t seem to do anything to mitigate that and all of a sudden they were surprised by that last year.

“They had to actually go in and do a force reduction and then I know some of the citizens were concerned that we wouldn’t have enough snow plow drivers this last winter. So thank goodness we had an easy winter.”

Maughan said we need to see more longterm goals along with vision. He said our ancestors had a vision and that helped us be able to live in the society we live in now.
