He’s had Type I diabetes for a long time but Bart DeVries, a resident of Hyrum, learned recently that he is in stage five kidney failure. He now has to have regular dialysis treatments to survive while he waits for a possible kidney transplant.
The bills are mounting but next door neighbor Annette Francis said hopefully money raised from a fundraiser and silent auction will help. Francis appeared on KVNU’s Crosstalk program Friday and said the event will be held on Friday, March 21 at the Hyrum Valley Event Center, 291 West Main in Hyrum.
“We are going to have Firehouse Pizzeria food for the night. They have stepped up,” Francis said. “We are really thankful for all the people that are willing to help us raise money for the DeVries family.
“Firehouse is going to be bringing the food warm and ready to serve. It will be bread and pasta and salad. Everybody knows Firehouse makes amazing food.”
Francis said she hopes people will come out to the big fundraiser and it is also hoped that local residents who might be willing to donate a kidney will be willing to be tested.
