Utah State football signs Junior College cornerback

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State football head coach Matt Wells announced Monday the signing of <a href=”http://www.hudl.com/athlete/511591/bryant-hayes” target=”_blank”>Bryant Hayes</a> to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Aggies beginning in the fall of 2014. Hayes will have two years of eligibility at USU.

Hayes, a 5-9, 175-pounder from Compton, Calif. (Compton HS/College of San Mateo) earned California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) first-team all-state and first-team all-Nor-Cal Conference honors in the Northern California Football Association (NCFA) as a sophomore at the College of San Mateo.

During his sophomore season at the College of San Mateo, Hayes recorded 17 total tackles (15-solo, 2-assist) and led the Bulldogs with four interceptions, returning one 71 yards for a touchdown against San Joaquin Delta JC. Hayes also had interceptions against Chabot JC, Foothill JC and De Anza JC during the 2013 season.

Overall, Hayes finished his sophomore season with 122 return yards on those four interceptions to go along with eight pass breakups and 1.0 tackle for loss. He also returned four punts for 25 yards and one kickoff for 11 yards in helping led the Bulldogs to a 10-1 record and a 75-9 win against American River JC in the Bothman Bulldog Bowl.

Hayes prepped at Compton High School in Compton, Calif., and earned second-team all-Moore League honors as a prep senior as he recorded 19 total tackles to go along with three pass breakups and one interception. Offensively, he rushed for 238 yards on 47 carries as a prep senior with three touchdowns, and was 2-of-5 passing for 19 yards with one touchdown.
