Foundation seeks nominations and donations to recognize top teachers

<p style=”margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 150%;”>The Cache Education Foundation is seeking both nominations and donations for their annual Hats Off awards for local teachers. According to foundation director Teri Lewis, the teachers who are chosen receive a $500 cash award, a plaque and a special pin that has been created specifically for a Hats Off recipient.</p><p style=”margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 150%;”>Each teacher who receives the award will be recognized before their entire student body for excellence in the classroom.</p><p style=”margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 150%;”>“Since we present the award at a year-end assembly,” Lewis says, “the audience is full of parents, students, staff members, administration.”</p><p style=”margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 150%;”>Teachers can be nominated by students, parents, school groups and others. <a href=”http://www.cefut.org/documents/HATS%20OFF%20AWARD%20Nomination%20Form%202014%20.docx” target=”_blank”>Nominations</a> are due by March 28 and there is a committee that reviews each application.</p><p style=”margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 150%;”>Lewis says that the awards are made possible by donations from local businesses and the number of Hats Off awards that can be given depends on the business support that is received.</p><p style=”margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 150%;”>President of the Cache Education Foundation Board, Ted Erekson, says the Hats Off awards are great opportunities for businesses to give back to educators who go above and beyond.</p><p style=”margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 150%;”>“It’s an incredible program,” he explains, “because it puts money directly in the hands of teachers that really excel at their job. They don’t just show up to work. They go the extra mile; they do the extra things.”</p><p style=”margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 150%;”>Erekson says the foundation typically awards 10-12 Hats Off awards every year.</p><p style=”margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 150%;”>“We receive donations from business members and conscientious community members,” Lewis says. “Any business that donates gets great exposure and they actually are able to award the plaque and the check to the recipient at the year-end assembly.”</p><p style=”margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 150%;”>For information about nominating a teacher or making a financial donation to the program, visit <a href=”http://www.cefut.org/index.php” target=”_blank”>cefut.org</a> or call (435) 755-2022.</p>
