LOGAN – A semi rollover near Amalga sent two people to the hospital and spilled over 5000 gallons of liquid.
The accident occurred around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, near 2400 West and Airport Rd.
Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said the semi was attempting to turn, when the trailer tipped over on its side. The semi came to rest upside down.
Peterson said both the driver and the passenger were able to climb out of the truck’s cab. Both of them were not wearing seat belts. They were transported to the Cache Valley Specialty Hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.
The semi also hit a power pole, sheering it off. Power in the area was shut off for several hours, while crews replaced the pole.
The semi, owned by Dairy Way Transportation, was carrying 5000 gallons of whey milk, a by-product in cheese production. Peterson said the Bear River Health Department was called to the scene for HAZMAT cleanup.
Peterson said the driver of the semi was cited for driving too fast for existing conditions.
