The wrong side of history

In his “The wrong side of history” Mr. Caine states ” And in 1978, with the continued threat of losing their tax exempt status hanging over their heads, the Mormon Church announced that their ban on black men holding the priesthood was lifted.”

<div>I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people make this accusation, but no one seems able to back this up with facts and figures. I know that there was a law suit or something, over the church not allowing boys who did not hold the Aaronic priesthood to hold positions of leadership in the Boy Scouts, and that was taken care of. </div><div> </div><div>But, how in the world could the church have lost it’s tax exempt status over blacks not holding the priesthood? i would think that would be in direct violation of the First Amendment. </div><div> </div><div>So, please ask Mr. Caine if he can tell me more about this, like how was this going to happen, what court case was involved, that sort of thing. </div><div> </div><div>Linda F. </div>
