Cache Republicans choose Merrill to replace Petersen

The man who helped get Craig Petersen elected Mayor of Logan will now take his place on the Cache County Council.

Greg Merrill, who was Petersen’s campaign manager, was elected Thursday by members of the Republican Party’s Cache Central Committee. Merrill defeated Richard West, who was also seeking the seat left empty by Petersen’s resignation earlier this month. The resignation takes effect Dec. 31.

Merrill’s name will now be officially submitted to the Cache County Council for appointment. This is an interim position and the seat will be up for regular election in 2014.

Republican party representatives from the ten precincts covered by the Logan #3 seat voted in Thursday’s special meeting. Those ten precincts are Logan 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 23, 26, and 28.

Merrill has a background in media and business, and has served on various community committees and boards including chairing the Logan Christmas Parade and the 4th of July Fireworks. He was also the executive campaign manager for Representative Ed Redd.

The Cache Republican Party congratulates Merrill on being elected and thanks both him and West for running for the seat.
