Help Portrait takes and gives family portraits during holiday season

On Saturday, December 7th, photographers will give back by taking family photos for those in need.

LOGAN – Paying to have family photos taken can be expensive. That’s why the Cache Valley Photographers Club is participating in Help Portrait for the third straight year. Help Portrait is a global movement of photographers giving back to their communities. They provide family portraits for families who may not be able to afford professional photography. Last year, Help Portrait had over 20,000 photographers participating internationally and since starting in 2009, these photographers have given close to half a million free portraits to those in need.

Help Portrait will occur Saturday, December 7th at Bridgerland Applied Technology College from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm. Families interested in having their photos taken can contact Amy Jensen at (435)755-7670 to make an appointment.

Cache Valley Photographers Club Organizer Mike Johnson said they could use more photographers and assistants to help out on Saturday. They currently have close to 30 local volunteers.

“Photographers will set up a bunch of different booths. We do have treats donated by a few companies and drinks so people can come in and relax. As soon as we can get them in, we’ll get them some pictures done,” explained Johnson.

Families will spend 15 minutes with their photographer. The photographer will then edit those pictures. Johnson said after photos are edited, they will be printed and delivered to families before Christmas.

Johnson said this is an important event because family is important.

“Cache Valley is a fairly family-oriented community,” he said. “It’s something special to have a nice picture of your family hanging on the wall, but not everyone can afford the prices.”
