Large drug bust in American Falls

Richard Royal arrested Monday on charges of trafficking a controlled substance and felony possession of marijuana.

Idaho State Police found more than 38 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop Monday morning. ISP and a Blackfoot City K-9 unit conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 86, near American Falls. The vehicle was traveling east and was stopped for a traffic violation. During the stop, police found 38.7 pounds of suspected marijuana and more than $1000.

The driver was identified as 37-year-old Danny Goddard, from Valley Springs, California. The passenger was identified as 38-year-old Richard Royal, from Linden, California.

Both Goddard and Royal were arrested and booked into the Power County Jail. They are being charged with trafficking a controlled substance and felony possession of marijuana.

Power County Sheriff’s Lt. Brad Ostler said over 80 pounds of drugs were seized this past weekend. Five others were arrested in separate incidents.

Ostler said the majority of arrests are traffickers, traveling through the area headed to Montana and Wyoming
