Cache County likely to raise property taxes to fund 2014 budget

LOGAN – Members of the Cache County Council on Tuesday will review a preliminary 2014 budget that will probably include an increase in property taxes. County Executive Lynn Lemon says it should come as no surprise because it’s been talked about for some time.

“There are several areas that we’ve looked at,” Lemon explains. “The major one is the road department. We’ve also looked at increasing the funding for the water department because of the recommendations of the water master plan.”

Lemon says there are some other departments within the county that need increases as well which ultimately will result in an increase in taxes.

“We’ve also provided some additional funding for mental health. I think we are going to be looking at a tax increase this year. We certainly want to be reasonable about it and limit it as much as we can.”

As for employees, Lemon says council members have been talking about a two percent pay increase in pay. He says the council will hold a public hearing on the budget at the November 26 meeting. The budget has to be adopted by the end of the year.
