Just in time for Veterans day, Neighborhood Nonprofit Housing Corporation’s newest project is to build five homes on Crockett Avenue in Logan specifically for young veterans with families.
Benjamin Farnsworth, Housing and Development Specialist for Neighborhood Nonprofit Housing, was a guest on KVNU’s Crosstalk program Friday and said the project is called “Freedom Landing” and is meant to provide affordable home ownership for veterans.
Farnsworth said the project stemmed from a 2008 study that showed that local veterans needed affordable housing. He said the bungalow-type homes will have two, three or four bedrooms.
In order to purchase these houses for a reduced rate, veterans and their families will need to put in 100 hours of work on the homes themselves.
“That could range from anything to landscaping, to painting, to some of the interior work they might want to participate in,” Farnsworth said. “Possibly, and very likely, some of the people who come in and apply have slight construction experience, or maybe even extensive.
“Based on their abilities and desires we will be able to accommodate up to 100 hours of sweat equity.”
Farnsworth said veterans interested in applying should call Neighborhood Nonprofit Housing at (435) 753-1112.
