Aggies cruise past Adams State in exhibition

After a poor defensive outing last week, the Utah State basketball team buckled down and cruised past Adams State 86-55 on Friday at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

“The great thing about college basketball is you get several practice games,” USU head coach Stew Morrill said. “It’s nice for us to have some practice time and some practice games.”

A double-double from Jarred Shaw led the way for USU, as the senior scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Danny Berger added 15 points – including 4-of-4 from behind the arc.

The Aggies rode solid rebounding and defense throughout, out-rebounding the Grizzlies 51-36 and limiting them to 31 percent shooting from the field.

“We were better,” Morrill said. “Obviously we defended better so we;ve made a little progress hopefully this past week.”

Freshman Jalen Moore added 10 pints in the win, and Kyle Davis threw down a statement slam dunk in the second half.

USU went 2-for-2 in exhibition games, and will kick off the regular season on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. against USC — the first time in more than 30 years a PAC-12 school has come to the Spectrum.

“I hope our fans will rally to that,” Morrill said. “It’s a great opener. It’s as good an opener as we’ve had while I’ve been here.”
