Logan, Sky View both win big, Mountain Crest eliminated from playoff picture

With games being played early due to fall break, the Logan and Sky View High football teams each won in lopsided fashion Wednesday, while Mountain Crest suffered defeat and was eliminated from the playoff race.

Logan 45, Hurricane 14

Another big game from quarterback Chase Nelson led the Grizzlies to a rout of Hurricane on the road in non-region action.

Nelson threw for four touchdowns and ran for another as the Grizzlies picked apart Hurricane. The senior threw for more than 300 yards and rushed for 60 more in the win.

The Grizzlies improved to 9-0 with one game left to play. Logan hosts Box Elder on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. for senior night.

Sky View 52, Ogden 0

The Bobcats won their second straight game and won by more than 30 points for the sixth time this season. Quarterback Braxton Godderidge and wide receiver Logan Miller connected for two touchdowns, and Miller ran for another.

Sky View used a big second quarter to put the game out of reach, scoring 28 points on both sides of the ball. Miller had two of his scores in the quarter, and Max Christensen returned a blocked kick for a score.

The Bobcats improved to 7-2 this season, and will host Roy in their senior night season-finale on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.

Box Elder 31, Mountain Crest 8

Needing a win to keep slim playoff hopes alive, the Mustangs were unable to get it done on the road.

The Bees took a 21-0 halftime lead and never looked back behind a pair of Shad Watson touchdown runs. Mountain Crest scored in the third quarter on 1-yard plunge from Nick Taylor to make it 24-8, but the Mustangs saw their playoff chances end.

Mountain Crest fell to 1-8 this season, and will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2003.
