Downtown Zombie Walk benefits Cache Community Food Pantry

LOGAN – What do you get when hundreds of zombies and zombie hunters gather for a walk down Historic Downtown Logan on Friday October 18? Hopefully a lot of food for the Cache Community Food Pantry.

The annual event, now in its third year, will take place Friday at 6 p.m. Participants dressed as zombies, and on-lookers, will gather at the intersection of Church Street and Federal Avenue in downtown Logan.

Every zombie, zombie hunter and on-looker is encouraged to bring one or more non-perishable food items to support the food pantry. The pantry’s executive director, Matt Whittaker, says the food is badly needed.

“We’re trying to collect anything to do with Thanksgiving dinner right now,” Whittaker explains. “We’re estimating we’re going to serve about 230 families for Thanksgiving.”

While any non-perishable food donations are welcome, Whittier says the food pantry is looking for specific items this time of year.

“We’re looking for anything to do with Thanksgiving dinner from hams, turkeys, corn, stuffing, cranberry sauce, biscuits, you name it. We’re looking for those things to make sure the families that come here can go away with a full Thanksgiving meal to share with their families.”

After all of the non-perishable food items have been collected, all zombies and zombie hunters are invited to have a professional portrait taken at no cost. At about 6:30 p.m. all zombies and zombie hunters will head south and then down Main Street to the Factory Pizzeria. Only zombies and zombie hunters will be served.
