Mothers mini-conference recognizes the ‘chairs’ mothers experience through life

RIVER HEIGHTS – A Mothers Mini-Conference presented by American Mothers of Cache Valley welcomes all mothers and women Saturday morning in River Heights.

“CHAIR-ish Motherhood” begins at 8:45 with breakfast and displays “from the home front” followed by keynote speakers Britten and Karla Schenk at 9:15 and concluding with workshop presenters at 10:30.

“We are recognizing the chairs mothers experience through life from a high chair to a rocking chair to a broken chair to a timeout chair,” said Diane Weese, a Cache Valley resident and member of the state board of American Mothers, which is a national organization.

Weese said the conference is designed to strengthen families and mothers.

“The displays are meant to give mothers and all women ideas for the different holidays and other important events.”

The Schenks will talk about life since Britten was hit by a bus in March, 2012 while serving an LDS church mission in Brazil, suffering traumatic brain injuries. He spent four weeks in a coma in Brazil and another seven weeks at the University of Utah Medical Center and he had to re-learn everything. Since the accident he has amazed all of his doctors and therapists.

“It’s a miracle that he was able to survive this and recover,” said Weese. “They will show clips from a video of the progress he has made. He is amazing.”

Workshop presenters include Julie Hollist who directs the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau, Ali Eisenach from St. George followed by two young mothers from Salt Lake City: Michelle Lehnardt and Catherine Arveseth. Lehnardt is the current Utah Young Mother of the Year.

This 24th annual Mothers Mini Conference is at the River Heights LDS Stake Center, 800 South 600 East.
