Apartment fire and water-main break

Fire crews and police reporting to an apartment fire as water begins to seep up from a water-main break.

LOGAN – An apartment fire and water-main break closed traffic for several hours Monday afternoon. Fire crews were called to a four-plex apartment fire at 257 West 600 North at 3:15 p.m.

First crews on the scene reported smoke coming from one of the apartments. The four-plex was evacuated as crews entered the building.

Smoke was found coming from the kitchen area. The fire was extinguished. Crews used fans to clear smoke and ventilate the apartment.

As crews were battling the fire a water-main broke west of the apartment, shooting water 20 feet into the air. Logan City Water and Sewer Manager Mike Roundy said the break was probably caused by an increase of water flowing through the line to a fire hydrant.

Water was shut off in the neighborhood for several hours, while crews repaired the line.
