LOGAN – Northern Utah skies are filling with smoke with large fires in Blacksmith Fork Canyon, the State Fire in Box Elder County and a continuing fire in Logan Canyon that has started producing more and more smoke.
The Mt. Elmer fire is located southeast of Mt. Elmer in the Mt. Naomi Wilderness Area in Logan Canyon. The fire is approximately 10 miles northeast of Logan.
According to U.S. Forest Service public information officer Larry Lucas, the fire was ignited by lightning Friday, August 10. The fire started producing more smoke on Wednesday and was easily visible from Logan.
<div>Lucas says the fire is not staffed at this time due to higher priority fires elsewhere. However, the Forest Service is monitoring the fire daily.</div>
