A challenger to Logan Mayor Randy Watts said if he had been mayor several years ago he could have saved the city money.
Craig Petersen is an 18-year-member of the Cache County Council. On KVNU’s For the People show Monday, Petersen was asked what he would have done differently if he had been mayor earlier.
Petersen said the city built an administrative building for $8 million.
“During the time that I was on the council and was part of the committee that did this, we built our new administration building and we actually completely refurbished the courthouse,” Petersen said. “Refurbishment costs about as much as new construction.
“We did both of those for $6.9 million and $900,000 was donated. So we built two buildings at public cost of $6 million. Logan built one at $8 million.”
James Olson, Community Development Block Grant coordinator for Logan City, is the third candidate for Logan Mayor, and all three will be debating Wednesday on KVNU’s Crosstalk show.
One of the three will be eliminated in the August 13 primary election.
