Cache County Fair opens Thursday

The Cache County Fair and Rodeo opens Thursday and thousands of people are expected to gather at the Cache County Fairgrounds to enjoy entertainment, competition and socializing by participating in activities through Saturday, August 10.

Jenessa Christensen said Saturday’s a big day for her because she’s entering her pigs and dairy heifers in the Junior Livestock Auction. On KVNU’s Crosstalk Show, Christensen said the auction starts at 9 a.m. and that’s when young people sell the animals they’ve cared for all year to help pay for their education and other goals.

“It’s a good opportunity for a lot of businesses to come get their name out, to get involved in our community, give community service and help out the young people and the exhibitors that are selling their animals,” Christensen said. “It’s really exciting for the kids to go through the sale with their animal and show off their hard work. It’s just really good to see our community come together and help each other out.”

Christensen said participation in 4-H and FHA organizations is a highlight in the life of many young people like herself.
