USU football women’s clinic grows in popularity

It is always an indicator the Utah State University football season is near and the Tuesday (July 30) USU Ladies Football Clinic, 6 p.m. at Romney Stadium is so popular this year it was filled to capacity the first two days of registration.

Assistant Coach Frank Maile said that has never happened before.

“It hasn’t, I believe it’s the first time. I think the word just got out among lady fans themselves. Those in the past have enjoyed the learning experience, educating themselves about what we do as coaches, about techniques of each position group and some of the fundamentals we teach.”

Maile said the crowd of 200 women will actually run through drills done by the Aggies.

“It’s quite a workout for them. This year we are going to do something new, adding an educational weight room side of things with nutrition.”

Maile said the on-field experience gives women attending the clinic get a chance to do what the student-athletes do but also to interact with them and get to know them better.

“Hopefully they will not only learn from our coaching staff but from the players as well.”

Members of the 2013 Aggie football team will report to the start of pre-season camp the middle of next week. The season opening game is Thursday, August 29 at the University of Utah.
