Many communities throughout Cache Valley celebrating pioneer heritage Wednesday

Several communities throughout Cache Valley will be hosting celebrations in honor of the area’s pioneer heritage on July 24. In Logan, most events will be taking place at Willow Park. In North Logan, events will be happening at Elk Ridge Park and Mountain View Park. The American West Heritage Center will also be hosting <a href=”http://www.cachevalleydaily.com/calendar/event_812856a2-d2d3-11e2-b6bc-1749b7f55270.html” target=”_blank”>Pioneer themed activities throughout the day</a>.

In Franklin County, the Oneida Stake Academy Foundation and 2013 Heritage Day partners are sponsoring a Franklin County Centennial birthday party in Benson Park in Preston. The Cache County 17th annual <a href=”http://www.cachevalleydaily.com/calendar/event_5b81617a-ecfd-11e2-a6fa-0019bb30f31a.html” target=”_blank”>Pioneer Day Jr. Youth Rodeo</a> will also be held July 24th at the Cache County Fairgrounds.

The following is a list of activities taking place at the various communities throughout the area on Wednesday, July 24.

<ul> <li>‘Run to Deseret’ (5K and 1 mile Fun Run) at Elk Ridge Park (1060 E 2500 North) beginning at 6 a.m. (register online at northlogancity.org)</li> <li>Flag Ceremony at 6:45 a.m. and breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. (Elk Ridge Park)</li> <li>Fishing Contest from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. (for ages 2–10) no fishing license required at King Park pond at 2300 East 1900 North</li> <li><strong>Parade at 10 a.m.</strong> (north on 1600 East and west on 2100 North).</li> <li>Activities at Mountain View Park (1100 E 2100 North) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (pioneer games, food, displays, entertainment, Fire Dept Water Fun)</li> <li>”The Widow’s Lazy Daughter” (cultural hall in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1100 East 2100 North) a 45 minute musical (shows on July 23rd at 7 p.m. and on the 24th at 1p.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. with free admission)</li> <li>Donkey Town vs Skin Town All-Star Game at Elk Ridge Park @ 5 p.m. (single-header baseball game between North Logan and Hyde Park, ages 9 – 10)</li> <li>Charity BBQ – Dinner &amp; music at Elk Ridge Park at 6 p.m. (Scout charity BBQ with donation requested). <ul> <li>Opening ceremonies at 1 p.m.</li> <li>Old-fashioned games, contests, free concerts in the park and booths will be open for the public until 7 p.m.</li> <li>Dinner will be served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling (208) 339-1674.</li> <li>Family dance from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in a re-creation of the Persiana in the bowery of Benson Park. The dance includes mini-floor shows by local dance teams. All proceeds from the event will go to the restoration of the Oneida Stake Academy building as a community center/museum of local history.</li> </ul>
