The Utah Festival Orchestra and Ensemble will present a musical tribute to pioneers and patriots July 24 in the Ellen Eccles Theatre. Cache County residents can purchase two tickets per household for half price as Utah Festival’s thank you for voting to support the Recreation, Arts, Parks and Zoos (or RAPZ) tax.
Barbara Day Turner, one of the company’s conductors, said it is a celebration of Utah’s unique Pioneer Day holiday and a chance to honor our country’s armed forces and legacy of democracy.
It’s part of the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre’s 2013 season, and founder and general director Michael Ballam said large numbers of people have been attending the offerings.
“We’re also doing one of Beethoven’s greatest choral works, in fact I won’t say one of, it is Beethoven’s greatest choral work in its entirety, ‘Los Missa Solemnis,’ the Solemn Mass,” Ballam said. “It requires great resources so we have the American Festival Chorus with Craig Jessop.”
You’ll hear more about the concert Monday on KVNU’s CrossTalk show when both Ballam and Jessop are the guests. Crosstalk starts at 9:10 a.m. and is a call-in show.
