Father drowns after saving son

JUNCTION, Utah (AP) – Authorities say a Cedar City man is dead after helping to save his 12-year-old son from the waters of Otter Creek Reservoir.

Piute County Sheriff Marty Gleave says 35-year-old Jeremy William Gunter died after going into the cold water about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Gleave tells the Deseret News (http://bit.ly/19t7S3a) the boy had jumped out of the boat to fetch a hat that had blown away in the wind.

The sheriff says Guntner helped get his son back into the boat, but went under himself. Neither had been wearing life jackets.

The father’s body was recovered about 10 p.m.

Gleave called Guntner’s actions heroic.
