The defending champion Providence Wolverines showed just why they won last season’s title in a 12-2 shellacking of the Smithfield Bluesox Saturday at Providence Field.
Brad Singer paced the Wolverines with three hits as Providence scored in three of the first four innings en route to a 9-0 lead before invoking the mercy rule in the sixth inning with a 10-run lead.
Singer was one of three Wolverines to hit a home run in the contest, adding two doubles and five RBI’s.
Smithfield fell to 7-3 overall after dropping its second straight league game.
Providence hosts the Hyrum on Tuesday before the teams meet again on Thursday in Providence at 7:30 p.m.
