Several file for Logan City offices on first day

The filing period for 2013 municipal elections opened Monday and by the time Logan City Recorder Teresa Harris’ office closed, six people had filed for office on the opening day. None of them were surprises.

Cache County Councilmember Craig Petersen was the first to file for mayor and that was one minute after the recorder’s office opened. Incumbent Mayor Randy Watts also filed for a third four-year term and the other mayoral candidates are James Olson, the city’s Community Development Block Grant Coordinator, and Jess Bradfield, an enrollment counselor for Western Governors University.

Incumbent Councilmember and current chair Holly Daines filed for re-election but Dean Quayle, whose first term expires this year, says he will not seek re-election. Downtown business owner Gene Needham, Sr. also filed for Logan Municipal Council after previously considering a run for mayor.

The filing period for public office runs through Friday, June 7.
