Utah State University to graduate 70 student-athletes this weekend

<strong>LOGAN– </strong>Utah State University’s 126th undergraduate commencement ceremony will be held Saturday, May 4 at 9:30 a.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum and among those graduating will be 70 USU student-athletes who completed their degrees during the 2012-13 academic year.

Among those student-athletes graduating are 22 football players, 16 track athletes, six women’s tennis players, five softball players, four athletes each from women’s basketball and gymnastics, three each from men’s golf, soccer and men’s tennis, and two each from men’s basketball and volleyball.

Utah State’s student-athletes traditionally rank among the best in the Western Athletic Conference with an 83 percent graduation success rate and a cumulative 3.17 grade-point average.  During the 2012-13 academic year, USU has had 97 student-athletes earn academic all-WAC honors thus far and 189 were recognized at its annual Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Luncheon for earning a 3.2 or better GPA.

During the 2011-12 academic year, Utah State had 185 student-athletes earn academic all-WAC honors.
