Logan apartment fire considered suspicious

Apartment fire where police believe arson was involved.

LOGAN — A vacant apartment fire in Logan Tuesday night, is believed to have been started by arson. Logan City Assistant Police Chief, Jeff Curtis said police and fire fighters reported to the fire at 8:24 P.M., south of the Island Market, near 20 South 400 East.

Heavy smoke was throughout apartment when fire fighters arrived and extinguished the blaze. Curtis said it appeared the fire was started using an accelerant. There was also evidence that the apartment had been vandalized.

An arson investigation team was called in to collect evidence. Curtis said he could not comment on what evidence was found inside the apartment, but that it is being sent to the Utah Fire Marshal’s office for further examination.

The owner of the apartment told Logan City Police that the apartment’s last tenants moved out some time earlier. Crews estimate the damage at $5000.
