LOGAN— The Cache Valley Figure Skating Club is presenting its ninth annual spring show Friday and Saturday starting at 7:30 each night at the Eccles Ice Arena. Show director and coach, Becca Anderson, who came here from Alaska, said this year’s theme is “Celebrate – An occasion to Skate.”
On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Tuesday, Anderson said there are 80 skaters in the show ranging in age from 6-years-old to 70. She said this is a chance to show the skaters’ hard work over the past year, and in spite of its beauty and grace, figure skating requires a great deal of grit and determination.
“They all have different talents and weaknesses, and that’s what you do as a coach, you try to build their weaknesses up, and really highlight their strengths,” Anderson said. “I have some kids that are really, naturally gifted on the ice and maybe don’t have as good of work ethic, and I have some kids that maybe the flexibility piece is a little bit harder for them, so they have to make sure they’re stretching a little more. You can really work with anybody.”
Anderson said the guest skater this year is Hina Ueno who competed in nationals earlier this year. This event is sanctioned by the U.S. Figure Skating Association and more information on the event is available by contacting the Eccles Ice Center at 435-787-2288.
