LOGAN— A special badge of appreciation was presented Tuesday night to Montie Coleman for his longtime service to the Cache County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Corps. Sheriff Lynn Nelson told the Cache County Council that Coleman joined the Search and Rescue group in 1971 and before long his wife Barbara was also involved.

“I can’t imagine the number of gallons of gasoline that Montie has gone through and donated, the number of hours he’s put in in 40 years, I’m sure it will be hard to be equaled,” Nelson said. “I’m personally not aware of any meeting, search, training, or anything to do with Search and Rescue that Montie has ever missed.”

Nelson said although Coleman is now 81, he was out on an all-nighter with the Search and Rescue just last week. Nelson said as sheriff, he relies a great deal on Coleman’s vast knowledge and dedication.

Coleman said he has served under four sheriffs, and he hopes this one stays around a while because after 40 years he plans to continue what he’s doing just as long as he can.
