Tennis player McKenzie Davis named USU Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN— Utah State women’s tennis player McKenzie Davis was named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Mar. 24, in an award voted on by a state-wide media panel.

This is the first career USU Student-Athlete of the Week honor for Davis, while also marking the first time this season a member of the Aggie women’s tennis team has earned the accolade.

Davis, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, won all three of her matches last week in helping Utah State to a 1-1 road record with a 5-2 win at Weber State and a 5-2 loss at UT Arlington. Against the Wildcats, Davis posted a straight set win at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-2) and teamed with senior partner Jaci West for an 8-5 win at the No. 1 doubles position. Against the Mavericks, Davis again won in straight sets at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-0), while her doubles match was left unfinished.

The women’s tennis team is currently posting a record of 5-6 overall for the spring season and 0-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. Utah State will stay on the road this weekend as it travels to Ruston, La., to take on WAC rivals Louisiana Tech on Friday, Mar. 29, at 8:30 a.m. (MT) and UTSA on Saturday, Mar. 30 at 2 p.m. (MT).
