USU Aviation program to celebrate Women of Aviation Worldwide Week

LOGAN— The Utah State University Aviation Program will celebrate Women of Aviation Worldwide Weeks with a “Fly it Forward” event for women interesting in aviation on Saturday, March 9.

The event at the Logan-Cache Airport, which is open to everyone, will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. according to airport manager Lee Ivie. USU Aviation will offer women and girls the opportunity to fly in one of USU’s Diamond Aircraft planes at a discount. Ivie said he agrees with US officials that a trend is continuing with more women entering aviation.

“There are no restrictions to women learning to fly and being actively involved in aviation,” Ivie said. “I’ve worked at four different airports, and I can assure you that women are actively involved in aviation – more and more all the time.”

Ivie said there is a big cross-country race in June involving women, and he said more and more women are earning their degrees in both the professional pilot and maintenance management programs at USU.
