HYDE PARK — An early morning accident Wednesday killed a 42-year-old Hyrum man. The high-speed crash was on U.S. 91 in Hyde Park.

North Park Police Sergeant John Italasano told KVNU, Jeffrey R. French was driving a Toyota pickup southbound on the highway at approximately 70 miles per hour. The truck left the roadway near 3200 North and drove into a field. It then hit a ditch, causing it to flip end over end, striking a light pole near the Murdock Hyundai auto dealership.

Italasano said that French was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck when it flipped. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It is suspected that alcohol was a factor in the crash. The truck traveled close to 100 yards through the field, before it came to a rest. An investigation into the crash is continuing.

The accident was reported by an off-duty dispatch officer at 1:38 a.m.
