Sky View girls defeat Salem Hills 64-60 to advance in 4A basketball playoffs

<strong>SALT LAKE CITY —</strong> In a back and forth battle, the Sky View girl’s basketball team emerged victorious in the first round of the 4A State Basketball Playoffs against Salem Hills, 64-60.

Senior Tara Goldman led the charge for the Bobcats as she recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Senior McKenley Hellstern and sophomore Lindsey Jensen also scored in double figures for Sky View, with 16 and 10 points, respectively.

The Bobcats jumped right out of the gate as they scored 18 points in the first quarter and built an 11 point lead by the end of the opening stanza. However, things switched around in the second quarter as Salem Hills posted the biggest quarter of the game with 23 points and came back to take a one point lead, 30-29, heading into the half.

Erica Egbert led the Skyhawks with a game-high 23 points, as she made four 3-pointers on the night. Missy Belliston also scored 16 points for Salem Hills.

Following the back and forth first half, the third quarter was much more competitive as Sky View edged the Skyhawks 15-14 to knot things up at 44 heading into the final quarter of action.

Down the stretch, it was the Bobcats who were able to make the plays and hold off Salem Hills for the victory. With the win, Sky View became the only team from the valley to advance to the second round where the Bobcats will face Bountiful at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Salt Lake Community College.
