Logan Police dog retiring, funds needed for new one

Bas, a nine year old Belgian Molinois, is retiring from the Logan City Police Department's K-9 unit. The department is seeking $20,000 to purchase and train a new K-9 unit.

<strong>LOGAN -</strong> The Logan City Police Department is seeking $20,000 in donations to replace a retiring K-9 service dog. Bas, a Belgian Malinois, is retiring from the department at the age of nine. Bas was trained in the Netherlands and responds to police commands in Dutch. 

The money is needed for the purchase and training of a new dog for the police force. The Logan City Police Department is currently the only agency in Cache Valley with K-9 units. The dogs are used for drug detection and apprehension needs. The K-9 units are also shared with other agencies throughout the valley.

According to the police department, they are seeking donations from the public so they can continue to have a K-9 unit available. In the past two years, Logan’s K-9 unit was called in to service more than 300 times.
